Todays subject:
Let’s talk about something simple but game-changing for your business: answering the phone.
Life as a business owner is hectic. If you ask me this is honestly an understatement. Between juggling tasks, managing a team, and trying to squeeze in some family time, its a lot to balance. But here’s the truth that i must share with you: every missed call is a potential customer choosing someone else. I know if I’ve missed a call with my three businesses. I get a text & an email sent directly to my mobile. I use a call answering service. They answer the call if I’m not available and take message. I always get the message.
Here is a photo of me and my son at his football match this week. Now I won’t answer the phone when I am busy watching him play, but I always make sure that I chase up any calls using an answering service that pings directly through to my phone.
Now here’s why Answering Calls is a Big Deal:
It’s Personal
People don’t call businesses for fun; they call because they need something now. Whether it's a quote, a question, or booking a service, that live interaction builds trust instantly. Answering shows you're reliable and ready.First Impressions Matter
Imagine calling a business and hitting voicemail. Annoying, right? Customers feel the same way. When you answer, it sets a tone of professionalism that’s hard to match.Competitors Are a Tap Away
If you miss their call, guess what? They’re probably Googling your competition. You’re not just losing a call—you’re losing revenue.
What About Missed Calls?
Okay, I can’t answer every single call (we are human, after all). But chasing missed calls can make all the difference. I make sure to call back as soon as possible so I don’t miss the customer.
Follow-Up is King
Call back quickly, and chances are, they’ll still be interested. A fast follow-up says, “Hey, your business matters to us.”It Shows Hustle
Customers notice effort. Calling back says, “We’re here to serve you,” which can turn a cold lead into a loyal client.
Pro Tip: Make It Easier
Invest in tools like a virtual assistant or call-forwarding service.
Use a CRM to track calls and make follow-ups seamless.
Consider scripting basic responses for your team so calls are handled consistently.
So next time the phone rings, think of it as the sound of opportunity. Answering calls (and following up on missed ones) isn’t just customer service—it’s good business. There are so many call answering services available. Let me know if you need a reccomendation.
Here’s to more connections and growing your business,
Graeme
