šŸ From Pavement to Purpose: My 10K Target

So here’s a personal one for you…

I’ve been training for the Great Manchester Run 10K.
Not an easy feat—especially when your knees don’t bend quite like they used to! (I won’t tell you my age… unless you ask nicely šŸ˜‰)

When I first started, I could barely jog 3K without sounding like a steam engine. But I set a target: run 3-4 times a week, and always hit at least 10K.
At first, it was tough. Cold mornings. Sore legs. Self-doubt. But I had a goal—and that goal gave me direction, discipline, and motivation.

And here’s the key: because I had a specific, written goal, I started showing up more consistently. I started improving. I started believing.
Now I’m not just running 10K—I’m enjoying it.

šŸŽÆ The Business Case for Targets

It’s no different in business.

If you don’t know what you’re aiming for… how will you ever know if you’re on track?

You wouldn’t go out on a run without a distance in mind. So why run a business without a goal?

Here’s what the research shows:

šŸ”¢ 14% of people who set goals are 10 times more successful than those who don’t
šŸ“ The 3% who write down their goals are 3x more successful than the 14% with unwritten goals

That’s not just motivation talk. That’s backed by psychology and performance studies.

šŸ“Œ Why Written Goals Work

Written goals give you:

āœ… Clarity – You know exactly what you're aiming for
āœ… Focus – You waste less time on distractions
āœ… Accountability – You’re more likely to follow through
āœ… Measurement – You can track your progress and celebrate milestones

🧠 Real Talk: What Happens Without Goals?

No targets = No growth.

When you drift without direction, everything feels reactive. You spend your days putting out fires instead of building momentum.

But with clear goals?

šŸ”„ You build systems
🧱 You make stronger decisions
šŸ“Š You measure results
šŸ’„ You grow with purpose

āœļø Your Business Goal Checklist

So… have you written down your business goals?

If not, here’s your action step:

šŸ“ Grab a pen. Right now. Or open a blank note. And write the answer to this:

What’s the ONE result I want to achieve in my business over the next 90 days?

Then ask:

  • How will I measure success?

  • What will I do weekly to stay on track?

  • Who will I tell to keep me accountable?

Start there. Keep it simple. Build momentum.

šŸƒā€ā™‚ļø From 0K to 10K—It All Starts With One Step

Running a business is like training for a 10K.

If you want to go further, faster—and feel proud at the finish line—you need to set your course.

No more vague hopes. No more ā€œlet’s just see how it goes.ā€
Set a target. Write it down. Stick to it.

You’ll be amazed at what you can achieve when the goal is clear and the purpose is strong.

Here’s to running your business with direction and confidence,
Graeme
